Compasso d’oro 2024, all the winners of the XXVIII edition

The 2024 Compasso d’Oro awards assigned, including new projects, career awards and student projects

This year too, as has happened every two years since 1954, the appointment with the excellence of design by Compasso d’Oro Award, which since 2020 has its prestigious home of the ADI Design Museum, the temple of the Italian Design Association in Milan. Born 70 years ago from an idea by Gio Ponti to enhance the quality of design in our country, even in this XXVIII edition the recognition expressed its evaluations starting from the pre-selection carried out by the ADI Permanent Design Observatory, and therefore by the designers, experts, historians and members who compose it.

As usual, 20 prizes are awarded, to which the now inevitable ones are added Golden Compasses for Lifetime Achievement: this year it was the turn of Paola Antonellicurator of the Department of Architecture and Design at the MoMa in New York; Umberto Cassinapresident of Mdf Italia; Anna FerrinoCEO of the leading outdoor companies Ferrino & C.; Roberto Gavazzi of Boffi/DePadova; the architect and designer Piero Lissoni; Francesca Planetapresident of Planeta Estate; Maurizio Riva, president of Riva 1920; the architect, designer and entrepreneur Paolo Rizzatto; Roberto Ziliani, founder of Slamp; the Japanese architect on an international level Tadao Ando and the founder of Comme De Garçon Rei Kawakubo. Also remembered are three great classic products by Gio Ponti such as the Superleggera for Cassina (1957), the Blu Ponti Collection for Ceramica Francesco De Maio (1960) and the D.154.2 armchair for Molteni (1953).

Furthermore, for the first time, ADI and the ADI Foundation wanted to assign the Memorable plaquesawards in memoriam to recently deceased personalities who brought prestige to the culture of design in Italy: this year the designers were remembered Gateano Fish And Italo Rotaboth of whom passed away in April, and Manlio Armellinione of the promoters of the Salone del Mobile, who died in 2020.
