The iconic Orient Express in Liguria, the journey from Paris to Portofino

Portofino. Agatha Christie set one of the most famous detective stories in history there, and the lucky ones who managed to purchase the ticket will be able to have a taste of an ultra-glamorous and timeless atmosphere: for the first time in her history, the Venice Simplon Orient-Express heads towards the Ligurian coastdirectly connecting two iconic destinations – Paris and Portofino – through the romanticism of the railway.

The most famous train in the world, relaunched a few years ago bythe Belmond Group (the same one who manages the Splendido in Portofino), left on Thursday just before 3pm from Gare de l’Est in Paris to get to the Santa Margherita-Portofino station to 1pm on Friday 21 June.

A journey of luxury that crosses the French campaigns parading along the French Riviera to reach the Ligurian Riviera and then end right at the Splendido di Portofino. During the hours when the train passes through the cities of Dijon, Lyon and Avignon, the summer menu of Michelin-starred chef Jean Imbert is served on board, who will also prepare dinner on the panoramic terrace of the Splendido on Friday evening.

The lucky passengers can immerse themselves in theArt Deco atmosphere of the very famous train, to which eight new suites have recently been added. Three le cabin types available: the historic ones, where the daytime lounge transforms into comfortable bunk beds, the new and luxurious suites with twin or double beds with private marble bathroom and the Grand Suites, six vast private suites that hark back to the golden age of 1920s travels, each inspired by the most fascinating cities in Europe: Paris, Venice, Istanbul, Vienna, Prague and Budapest.

The package includes two nights’ accommodation at the Splendido, and on the last day guests will be able to enjoy a private screening of the film under the stars in the iconic “Piazzetta”. Obviously the experience is anything but cheap: prices start from just over 9,000 euros per person for two guests sharing a historic cabin on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and a garden view room on the Splendido.

The price includes overnight travel with service steward 24 hours a day, all meals with wine of the sommelier’s choice and unlimited non-alcoholic drinks, two nights at the Splendido in B&B formula, the dinner of chef Jean Imbert and transfers to Paris and Portofino.
