A careful analysis of the emergency of deer and wild pigs, that of yesterday in Castellana Sicula during a crowded, constructive and collaborative meeting, in which the events that led to the expansion in the park area and outside the park of wild ungulates and the initiatives implemented by the body to combat their spread were retraced.

A long journey that began years ago and is now about to materialize with the implementation of the various management processes, overcoming the various critical issues, especially infrastructural ones, that have so much conditioned an optimal implementation of the activities. Among the most relevant is the start of a process that will also allow the optimization of the use of the animals deriving from the control operations of the Fallow Deer, through a specific specification for the use of the meat deriving from the removed animals, through a storage center now close to inauguration. Objective: to energetically remove and in full compliance with national and regional legislation the factors of demographic expansion of these wild fauna species to protect biodiversity, human activities and the safety of citizens.
“A fruitful meeting – for the Commissioner of the Madonie Park Authority Salvatore Caltagirone – during which the territory expressed appreciation for the work carried out by the Authority, which in recent months has perfected the pieces that will soon allow for the start of a constant flow of activities that, from the slaughter of the animals to distribution, at an obviously symbolic price, will serve to support part of the processes and close the circle of the problem. It is no longer the time for polemics, but for constructive and proactive dialogue”.

In this sense, with a view to adaptive management based on the continuous analysis of all wildlife-environmental data and progressive optimization of management, among the hypotheses put forward, also that of the implementation of protection systems for agricultural activities among other things, interventions already foreseen in the plans but for which at the moment there is no financial coverage.
And precisely on this point, an extraordinary opportunity was proposed by the President of the GAL Madonie Francesco Migliazzo who suggested intercepting specific sources of funding that were still unused.
The meeting, organized in synergy between the Park Authority and the Municipality of Castellana, was expertly moderated by Anselmo Intrivici, President of the Council of the Madonie town and expert in health matters, who took charge of disseminating as much as possible in the territory the initiatives implemented by the various bodies to address and remove the critical issues.
For Intrivici, “An information journey begins and we also hope for training for local operators to make them understand how this critical issue, which is putting environmental biodiversity at risk, can actually constitute an important opportunity for the Madonie area” .

Present in addition to numerous citizens, breeders and producers, some mayors, the President of the GAL Madonie Francesco Migliazzo, technicians of the sector, civil and military authorities, including the commander of the local Cc Company captain Salvatore Mancuso, spontaneous citizens’ committees, to testify the importance that the problem and the activities have for the territory and the population with implications on safety, on the protection of the territory and on future opportunities.
