CORTINA D’AMPEZZO – Closed for a year and a half, the Miramonti hotel in Cortina, one of the best known in the Ampezzo valley, a place where many celebrities from the world of entertainment (and not only, also from politics and literature), both Italian and no, it will reopen. Not only that: it will reopen and, according to the owners’ intentions, it will expand.

HISTORY
Born in the early 1900s, a Dolce Vita hotel, which hosted the cream of cultural events every summer season, as well as thousands of guests and many VIPs, the Miramonti has 122 rooms, with over 200 beds and employed 50 collaborators. gave work because in January last year the hotel was closed after an inspection by the fire brigadeor, occurred following a complaint by the Roman real estate developer Matteo Corsini, which had reported some alleged irregularities in compliance with fire regulations. Temporary closures and openings, with extraordinary measures, followed one another until the end of that winter season, after which the hotel was closed. The property, the group Geturhotelswhich refers to Zanchetta family, Treviso residents who diversified their investments after starting with the department stores in Mareno di Piave, had decided to intervene radically to bring the structure into order, which was inevitably affected by the years that had passed and which needed major work, which however must not distort the the originality of the environment. The project had slowed down for a few months and the hotel, located on a hill just outside Cortina, coming from Cadore, had had no guests for over a year.

THE RECOVERY
Now the situation seems to have changed: the impediments that had slowed down the restructuring process no longer exist and the project can move forward. A technically complex and also expensive project, but within the reach of a group like Geturhotels which owns hotels, residences and resorts in many famous tourist locations: from Cortina to Falcade, from Stintino to Golfo Aranci in Sardinia, from Jesolo to Bibione to Marina di Ravenna on the Adriatic coast. Not only that: since a major intervention was necessary, Geturhotels also decided to ask for an extensionwhich would be permitted by the urban planning regulations of the municipality of Cortina: if everything goes well, the Miramonti will combine the charm of its tradition with the most modern technologies in terms of accident and fire prevention.

THE SITUATION IN THE CITY
in view of the 2026 Winter Olympics, many hotels in Cortina, sometimes lagging behind other tourist destinations, are trying to adapt to the changing tourism. Among the best known, for example, are the Cristallo hotel and the Ampezzo, which had been practically demolished and had been at the center of a legal dispute which now seems to have been overcome. But other city hotels are also following the same path as their bigger brothers and, for example, are addressing the issue of accessibility for disabled people, a very important factor, since Cortina will also host the Paralympics in 2026.
