The Blue Flag for clean sea flies over Sampieri, Punta Pisciotto and Costa di Carro.

A popular and well-attended ceremony welcomed the recognition of the Fee, the first in history for Scicli.

In the presence of the mayor Mario Marino, his team of councilors, the city councilors, the managers and officials of the technical office, the military and religious authorities, the school directors and all the associations that deal with environmental issues, it was The flag raising ceremony was celebrated today, in front of many holidaymakers, residents, tourists and people passionate about the themes of the sea and the environment.

The Blue Flag is a protocol of good practices that allow local administrations to measure themselves on the objectives of territorial governance, and in this sense the model of care for the sea is destined to extend sooner or later to rural territories.

Mayor Mario Marino, visibly excited and satisfied, retraced the long journey that in a few months allowed the Municipality to satisfy the 32 requirements needed to obtain the coveted recognition.

He spent words of praise for the councilor Enzo Giannone, who believed in the project, for all the officials of the technical office, for the Free Consortium of Ragusa, and for the professor Corrado Monaca, who like a Virgil led the administration in this difficult obstacle course.

Don Franco Cataldi, parish priest of Sampieri, said that the Blue Flag is for Sampieri the testimony of the “care of Creation” and blessed the Flag. “If turtles choose Sampieri for their nests, it means that this is a corner of paradise,” said the priest.

Enthusiasm and pride in the many citizens present for this result that preludes, in 2025, other recognitions for the coast of Scicli.

Professor Corrado Monaca explained how the Flag for Sampieri allows the province of Ragusa to reach a record: with the series of Blue Flags from Ispica to the border with the territory of Santa Croce, 79% of the provincial coast is kissed by the Flag, the highest percentage in Italy.

One last point of pride. Of the 14 Sicilian Blue Flags, 5 are in Ragusa.

The party ended with the cutting of a cake. Blue in color.
