it’s the fourth success in a row (photo)

(Agnes Paparelli) Gaita San Pietro wins again. For the third year in a row – fourth if we consider the success of 2019, before the two-year stop due to the pandemic – the group led by Consul Davide Gasparrini wins the Palio del Mercato delle Gaite di Bevagna.

The 35th edition of the event saw the four Gaite – San Pietro, Santa Maria, San Giorgio and San Giovanni – compete in the Gastronomic competition, the Crafts competition, the Market competition and the Archery competition. The Gaita San Pietro took the lead in the final rankings with 53 total points. San Giorgio followed with 42, San Giovanni with 37 and Santa Maria with 36 points. San Pietro won the Gastronomic and Archery competitions while the Crafts were won by Santa Maria and the Market competition by San Giorgio.

A great satisfaction for the Gaita San Pietro which, after the successes of recent years, triumphed again by winning the Palio 2024, ‘Omobono’, created by the young Tuscan artist Camilla Bargellini and dedicated to the charismatic figure dating back to the 12th century of the rich cloth merchant Omobono who was always on the side of the poor.

Also this year Bevagna has given its citizens and guests a dive into the Middle Ages. The village, among the most beautiful in Italy, has experienced a real leap in time recalling the period between 1250 and 1350. The art workshops have reproduced in detail the crafts of the time offering a unique show to tourists and enthusiasts. Among the alleys of the city acrobats and musicians have followed one another who have animated the various evenings. And there has certainly been no lack of gastronomy with the taverns of the four Gaite that have offered dishes taken from ancient recipe books and menus according to tradition.

The celebrations of the Gaita San Pietro continue today, Monday 1 July, with dinner in the tavern to celebrate the fourth victory in a row.
