The hope in the miracle is extinguished. Little Fatou didn’t make it

The hope for a miracle, which lasted less than four days, was dashed yesterday. Fatou Sarr, the eleven-year-old girl who was fished out lifeless from a swimming pool at the Aquaneva Park in Inzago on Monday morning, did not make it. Yesterday afternoon the declaration of brain death, confirmed by the family and her parents, who remained for four days and four nights at their little daughter’s bed, kept alive by machinery at the Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in Bergamo. In the hours before the inevitable epilogue of the drama they had asked, in a letter, that their privacy be respected in such a terrible moment. Today they ask for justice for their little girl, and for any possible help in the work of the investigators.

An autopsy will most likely be carried out on the body of Caravaggio’s little girl. Then the body will return to Senegal, the family’s country of origin. And the land where Fatou always said he wanted to return one day. The worst conclusion for an affair that had kept two communities in suspense for four days: Caravaggio, where the little girl lived with her family and where she had companions and friends, and Inzago, where, the other day, everyone had heard the roar left of the helicopter rescue, on which the little girl had been loaded after the first futile resuscitation attempts. The investigations continue, coordinated by the Milan Prosecutor’s Office, and, especially in the dramatic progression of the latest events, protected by confidentiality. Investigation measures would have been issued against the priest who was in charge of the trip the other day and, as it turns out, against a lifeguard at the Park. No official confirmation or details from the local police of Inzago since the first day responsible for the investigation. However, a critical picture, which the tragic epilogue can only make worse. Let’s remember, everything took place at 10.45 in the morning on Monday. The group from the San Luigi Gonzaga oratory of Caravaggio had recently arrived at the water park, around 200 children and young people from primary and middle school, on five buses. Less than half an hour after arrival comes the dramatic sequence, which we are trying to clarify. The only thing that is certain is that suddenly Fatou, having entered the “big pool” despite not knowing how to swim, was seen underwater, motionless. She was taken outside and was subjected to resuscitation procedures while waiting for help. Attempts to bring her back to her life continued on the helicopter, and then, for four days, in the hospital.
