Orosei, “Prèndas” among the best olive oils: wins the gold medal in Dubai

Sardinian is one of the best oils in the world. Prèndas, from the Sotgiu oil mill in Orosei, won the gold medal ranking as one of the best olive oils in the ultra premium – evo category at the Dubai Olive oil competition Early Harvest 2024. An international event that takes place in the United Arab Emirates and it is among the largest sector competitions in the world which involves producers from over twenty nations. Prèndas is a blend of two native cultivars of Sardinia, the Bosana and the black of Oliena, a product that has just entered the market despite the Sotgiu oil mill having a history of production (for third parties) that has been boasting for almost half a century.

«It’s a great satisfaction», says Francesca Sotgiu, niece of the founder Francesco, who in 1969 as a young lover of agriculture decided to start the business with her brother Mario. The choice is to aim for an international target on markets such as the Asian one where “yellow gold” is highly sought after. The Sotgiu oil mill initially dedicated itself only to milling for third parties. In fact, for Francesco it was a secondary activity: his first profession was that of a hotelier. It was the family that made one of the founder’s dreams come true: to bottle and enhance its product, which was launched on the market with the Oleificio Sotgiu brand which immediately obtained quality recognition at the Dubai Olive oil competition.
