Two mighty pine trees that intertwine to symbolize the solidarity and unity of the Italian people. Thus the artist Nian decided to represent the Italian Constitution in the mural intervention “Innesto” created in Piazza della Constitution, in San Donnino in the municipality of Campi Bisenzio, and curated by Street Levels Gallery.

The work, which extends over a vast area of the Giorgio La Pira Comprehensive Institute, intends to convey the values enshrined and protected by the Italian Constitution through the universal language of art, capable of communicating emotions and ideas beyond any linguistic barrier. The lines, shapes and colors of Nian become messengers of the fundamental values that form the basis of the order

legal and political of our country.
In “Innesto” the artist explores the union between the majesty of nature and the values enshrined in the Constitution. Nian chose to represent the pine, a species of Asian origin dating back 225 million years ago, to symbolize the strong, ancient and universal roots of biodiversity and the link between different cultures. This tree, a symbol of wisdom, kindness and protection since ancient times, is a perfect interpreter of the mythological link with Italian history. The two intertwined pines, which rise above the turret, are grafted onto a fluid form that hovers along the base wall, creating a common thread between nature and humans. This image evokes article 9 of the Constitution which “protects the environment, biodiversity and ecosystems, also in the interests of future generations”.

Furthermore, the connection that the artist establishes between nature and human society is significant, highlighting the importance of legislation that protects balance and collective well-being, as also established by art. 3 “All citizens have equal social dignity and are equal before the law, without distinction of sex, race, language, religion, political opinions, personal and social conditions”.

The pictorial intervention captures attention thanks to the harmonious union of three soft colors: light blue, green and brown. A symphony that transmits calm and serenity thanks to the large sky blue backgrounds and the areas covered by a warm and enveloping brown: a chromatic combination, sober but powerful.

Thanks to Nian’s work, the connection between different elements is transformed into a visual tool that allows us to explore fundamental concepts and convey profound meanings through art. Creation stimulates collective reflection on the interconnections between the laws of nature and those of human society, highlighting the need to protect and preserve both to ensure a sustainable and equitable future for all.

“It is with great pride that we inaugurate the mural in Constitution Square in San Donnino – declared Mayor Andrea Tagliaferri – a work of art that aims to be a tribute to the founding values of our Constitution. This mural is not only an artistic expression, but a symbol of the principles of freedom, equality and justice that our Constitution embodies.”

The work is created on the external walls of the school of the Giorgio La Pira Comprehensive Institute: “The message that we wanted to give together with the artist is important – underlined the Deputy Mayor Federica Petti – especially because it is close to two schools. This mural represents a way to bring even the youngest men and women closer to the Constitution, making them understand the importance of solidarity and unity, fundamental values for our society. Through art, we can educate and raise awareness among new generations of the principles that underlie our democracy.”

The intervention was carried out in collaboration with the municipality of Campi Bisenzio and thanks to the financial support of the Council of the Tuscany Region.

With this objective, the Street Levels Gallery staff has created a reality entirely dedicated to artistic experimentation, the exhibition of works, the production of connections, human plots and shared projects.
Art is the means through which to narrate the paths and artistic expressions born in the street, supporting their existence, and, at the same time, trying to break down those narrative and stereotypical limits existing between public and private space, between the street and the exhibition venue. Street Levels Gallery mediates and reconciles different artistic visions with the needs of private individuals, public administrations and the community. The gallery collaborates with municipalities, festivals, art exhibitions, museums, companies, associations, collectives, universities, public and private bodies, in order to spread and promote the Urban Art movement in Italy and around the world.
