An 18 year old boy, Pierpaolo Bodinidied Thursday morning June 20th while at work in Brembiomunicipality in the province of Praises, inside a farm. According to an initial reconstruction, the young worker, together with a 20-year-old colleague, who was rescued in a state of shock, was carrying out some maintenance work on a seeder inside the Bassanetti farmhouse, when a piece of the vehicle broke off and overwhelmed him.
A file has been opened on the case by the Lodi Prosecutor’s Office.
The rescue
Rescuers from the regional emergency and urgency agency, the Areu, intervened with a medical vehicle and an ambulance. The firefighters, the carabinieri and experts from the Ats health protection company also arrived on site.

«We are all speechless – says the mayor of Brembio Oriana Ghidotti – Dying at work is something that makes us even more angry. We know about the victim that he was a hard worker.”

«We are shocked and outraged by yet another tragedy that occurred inside a farmhouse in Brembio, in the Lodi area, in which an 18-year-old lost his life, crushed, according to an initial reconstruction, by the fall of a heavy component of an agricultural machine while it was working”, declare in a joint note Paolo Capone, UGL general secretary, and Maurizio Buonfino, UGL Lombardy regional secretary.
«We are faced with a real national emergency, which cannot be considered a simple fatality. The phenomenon of so-called white deaths is unacceptable in an advanced country, whose Constitution is based on the right to work. We believe that investing in safety means focusing on strengthening controls, a culture of safety and training starting from school. We also believe that intensifying sanctions is necessary in the event of violations of the rules. The death toll in Italy shows an unsustainable trend, so indignation is no longer enough. We need to build a system that guarantees greater protection for workers”, they conclude.
