One gold and one European bronze. The brothers Angelo and Anthea Mangione they have carved out a role for themselves as absolute protagonists of the European Club Taekwondo Championships in Tirana which took place in the Albanian capital from 13 to 15 June.

Successes for the two boys from Leonforte and for the Team Mangione which allow them to qualify for the next ones Under 21 European Championships with the blue shirt.



Angelo Mangione’s gold

At the Tirana Olympic Park “Feti Borova“, Angelo Mangione won in the category 73 Junior. There were 22 participants from the Old Continent. In the first round 2-0 for Mangione over his Ukrainian opponent, then, in the quarter-finals, the Greek obstacle Ioannis Antoniadis overcame 2-1.

In the semi-final the rock Jon Gashi, number one in the ranking. But even against the Kosovar, the Sicilian was concentrated and won 2-1. In the final the Bosnian Benjamin Husic, number three in the ranking, was beaten 2-1.



Bronze for Anthea Mangione

Anthea Mangione, bronze in the -59kg category



The athlete Anthea Mangione born in 2008 participated in -59kg Junior category which saw 23 athletes at the start. Good in the first two rounds (both opponents overcome with a score of 2-0). Then in the semi-final the defeat against the Croatian Marija Uglesic, born in 2007 who then went on to win the continental title.



Qualified for the Under 21 European Championships

The two Sicilian brothers will wear the blue jersey as they qualified for the U21 European championships, Angelo Mangione also qualifies for the next Grand Prix Final. The parents and coaches of the two athletes are satisfied and declare: “the two athletes continue to promise well, they are riding high in the European rankings”. And they continue: “The level of Taekwondo in Italy is rising a lot, thanks also to the great work of the Italian Taekwondo federation which invests a lot in clubs and athletes. We can say today that, being a small company from the Enna area, we are lucky to have an organization that can afford us such high levels as to compete with the best in Europe and in the world.”.
