Leclerc is preparing to return to the track with Ferrari in the Spanish GP. The Ferrari driver revealed a curious backstory
Redemption goal for Ferrari in Spanish GP scheduled for next weekend on the Montmelò circuit in Barcelona. The double retirement in Montreal, with Leclerc and Sainz out in the GP won by Verstappen, was an atrocious disappointment for the Prancing Horse fans, in great confidence after Leclerc’s victory in his Monte Carlo.
Leclerc’s retirement allowed Verstappen to widen the gap in the drivers’ standings. The Dutch champion is now in command with 56 points ahead of his rival, a slightly larger gap than the one Red Bull has against Ferrari in the constructors’ ranking (+49).
On the eve of the Spanish GP, Leclerc gave an interview to La Stampa in which he revealed an unpublished backstory. The Ferrari driver, in fact, revealed that he often communicates with an athlete who, like him, lives in Monte Carlo. An Italian athlete, whose popularity grew dramatically between 2023 and 2024, thanks to his series victories and reaching first place in the world rankings.

Who are we talking about? Of course Jannik Sinner. Leclerc revealed that, although there have been few opportunities to meet despite both living in Monte Carlo, contacts with the Italian tennis player are very frequent.
“With Sinner we often write to each other – explains the Ferrari driver – he sent me some messages when I won in Monte Carlo. He congratulated me and wrote to me that he was happy for me. I obviously wrote to him for number one. “
Leclerc also revealed that the two will soon share a moment together. It is unlikely that it could happen on the track or with a Formula 1 car. A simpler and very popular discipline is better at the moment. “Until now – continues Charles – we only saw each other at a few awards shows but we agree that Soon we’ll go play padel. Even if it won’t be a great day for me..”
Both Sinner and Leclerc share a mutual passion for… each other’s sport. Jannik follows the Formula 1 and is a Ferrari fan.
