Bari ballot, Sangiuliano: “If Romito wins I’ll be a councilor”

The electoral campaign in view of the run-off is in full swing. In the next few days several members of the Meloni government will arrive in Bari to support the centre-right candidate, Fabio Romito. Today it was the turn of the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, who launched a decidedly unusual self-nomination

“I will be the culture councilor”. Surprisingly, the culture minister Gennaro Sangiuliano is a candidate to join the municipal council in the event of the centre-right’s victory in the run-off. An electoral promise that is difficult to keep: there is no rule that prohibits a minister from also carrying out the role of councilor, but the practice and the rules on incompatibility make such a situation unlikely, if not inappropriate: by law, in fact, the role of parliamentarian is incompatible with that of regional or municipal councilor, following this logic the incompatibility could also be applied to ministers. Sangiuliano is the first minister of the Meloni government to come to Bari to support Fabio Romito in view of the run-off. The minister recalled the government’s activity in support of local culture, such as the extraordinary allocation for the Petruzzelli theater and having made the Castello Svevo an independent museum, in order to guarantee greater resources. A strategy in cultural policy which, according to Sangiuliano, was lacking in the Decaro administration. And Romito insists on great events.
