A white sheet in the middle of the street. Not far away, a helmet and then, even further away, the overturned scooter and those reddish blood stains all around where the chalk traces the contours of yet another tragedy of a silent massacre. This is how he presents himself, the roundabout of death. The one along Viale Principe di Piemonte which crosses Via Cavalieri di Vittorio Veneto, in front of bathroom 150.

A roundabout overlooking the sea, on the border between Miramare and Riccione, where yesterday afternoon around 6.50pm the tarry asphalt became wet with a man’s blood. In that roundabout, 40-year-old Marco Bianchi, originally from Cattolica but who should have been resident in Misano, lost his life. Died struck by a car with which – according to the very first findings on the accident – the 40-year-old had touched himself while traveling aboard his Kymco 125 model scooter. But let’s go in order.

According to the first and still partial findings of the municipal police of Rimini, who intervened at the scene of the accident together with nearby colleagues from Riccione who raised the alarm, the moped on which Marco Bianchi was traveling and a Volkswagen Polo driven instead by a 78 year old man (accompanied by his wife) were walking along Viale Principe di Piemonte, both coming from Riccione and heading towards Rimini. The two vehicles would therefore have shared the same direction when, for reasons still being ascertained, the moped and the car touched each other.

A collision which would have resulted in the fall of Marco Bianchi who, at that point, no longer had a chance once the car had run over him in an accident which turned out to be fatal. Following the accident, the 118 emergency services rushed to the scene immediately but were unable to do anything other than confirm the death of the forty-year-old. The injuries sustained were too serious and would have caused his death instantly. The police also arrived on site to carry out investigations and to direct traffic on the roundabout and the Public Prosecutor’s Office was also alerted to the incident.
