The flames broke out just before 2pm but it took over six hours to put them out and prevent them from starting again. A large fire broke out yesterday in the area between via Spina and vocalità Ponte Pio, via Baldeschi Baleani and touched the riparian vegetation of the Esino river. Fifteen hectares went up in smoke. The flames were triggered by a combine harvester that was harvesting barley as reported by the driver of the vehicle who saw the flames on the back of the large agricultural vehicle.
The driver, a 49-year-old from Jesi, was identified by the forestry police. The arson investigation is ongoing. The Jesi firefighters, forestry carabinieri and the Jesi company were on site. The police entered the homes and helped the residents with the irrigation pipes while waiting for the firefighters to arrive. A family and several farm animals were evacuated. Once the Coc was activated, the mayors of Jesi and the nearby area of Monte Roberto Lorenzo Fiordelmondo and Lorenzo Focante went to the scene. The surrounding areas are closed to traffic, resulting in traffic disruptions. The fire apparently started from the undergrowth but reached the houses, one house in particular. A farmer tried to help put out the fire with his tractor and ploughshare. But the wind that continued to blow did not help contain the widespread fire. Seven fire brigade vehicles were involved. The fire brigade helicopter arrived from Pescara was also brought to the scene in the late afternoon to prevent the flames from spreading again. The dense black cloud could be seen several kilometers away and caused a lot of concern throughout the afternoon but fortunately, thanks to the massive and timely intervention of all forces, no one was injured or intoxicated and in the end the fire was put out. The safety operations continued even late at night.
