Cremona Evening – Meeting in Milan between the Mayor of Crema, the Homogeneous Area and the Regional Councilor for Transport: the direct Crema-Milan train will be tested

Today in Milan, an important step was taken for the continuation of the dialogue for the implementation of territorial transport, with a significant meeting between the Mayor of Crema, Fabio Bergamaschi, and the Regional Councilor for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Franco Lucente. At the center of the discussion were some issues of crucial importance for railway connections and, in general, for the mobility of the citizens of Crema and the surrounding area. Also present at the meeting were the regional councilors Piloni, Vitari and Ventura, the president of the homogeneous area Rossoni, the CEO of ConsorzioIt, Eng. Garatti, and the mayors of Castelleone, Capralba and Casaletto Vaprio: Marchesi, Cattaneo and Dioli.

Work on the Cremona-Treviglio line and critical issues with the replacement services
The first item on the agenda concerned the works currently underway on the Cremona-Treviglio railway line and the critical issues that emerged with the replacement transport services. the Regional Councilor reassured those present that the work schedule will be respected and that the line will be reactivated starting from July 1st. However, he noted the inefficiencies found in the replacement bus services, reported to Trenord, expressing the hope that prompt action can be taken to improve the situation.

Relaunch of the Crema-Milan direct train project
The second topic discussed, among the main topics covered by the meeting request, concerned the relaunch of the project for a direct Crema-Milan train, without the need for a change in Treviglio. Councilor Lucente has once again shown openness towards an “experimental” proposal that could introduce direct trips to Milan. A concrete proposal will be formulated following a regional comparison with Trenord and will be subject to joint evaluation between the interested mayors and the Cremaschi Commuters Committee: a significant step towards improving commuter mobility.

Level Crossing Problem
The third point touched on the problem of level crossings along the railway line. For this reason, a meeting will be organized in Crema to take stock of the investments planned by the Italian Railway Network (RFI). The objective is to request, through the Region, greater attention from the Government for planning that involves the elimination of as many level crossings as possible, with a current target of seven eliminations.

Extension of the M3 line towards Crema
The extension of the M3 metro line towards Crema was then discussed. Councilor Lucente has communicated his intention to further discuss the issue with the Municipality of Milan, with the aim of relaunching the extension project up to Pantigliate. An update on this matter will be provided later, as there are currently no significant developments.

Update on the implementation status of the cycling projects finalized by the Region and currently underway
Finally, the implementation status of the cycling projects promoted by the Lombardy Region has been updated, which are currently under construction and aim to improve sustainable mobility in the area.

The Mayor Bergamaschi he has declared: “Today’s meeting represented a positive step forward in the comparison between the territory and the Lombardy Region for the strengthening of sustainable mobility strategies, in particular for the improvement of rail transport conditions. This is already the third meeting we have had with the Councillor, and today’s occasion provided a concrete update on the ongoing projects. One of the most significant innovations discussed concerns a discussion announced by the Councilor with Trenord on the possibility of creating, even on an experimental basis, the direct Crema-Milan train without a change in Treviglio, a measure which would represent a clear benefit for the quality of life of our citizens. commuters and would significantly improve the connection with the regional capital. I also reiterated the importance of the development of the supra-municipal cycle network, a project that Crema is carrying out together with the Homogeneous Area and which is receiving constant support from the Lombardy Region. The concrete commitment to finding further opportunities for strengthening and supporting these cycle/pedestrian paths, in addition to those already financed, was highlighted. Finally, I appreciated the Councilor’s willingness to interact with commuter representatives and all stakeholders, to update them on the state of implementation and the health of mobility in the area. This represents a commitment of high political significance and a promising focus for the future of interventions in the mobility sector.”
