The CAI raises the alarm, faced with an apparently unprecedented spread of ticks, caused by particular weather conditions. Given the situation, the Section of the Italian Alpine Club of Belluno, in light of the cases of meningoencephalitis diagnosed since the beginning of the year and the reports received from CAI members, has decided to organize a conference dedicated to the topic.

The public meeting will be Wednesday 26 June at 8.30 pm in Sala Bianchi in Belluno. Among the speakers are the doctor Nahuel Fiorito of the Public Hygiene Service of the Ulss 1 Dolomiti, Gianluigi Zanola veterinarian of the Ulss 1 Dolomiti, Alessandro Somacal president of the Order of Pharmacists of the province of Belluno and lieutenant colonel Riccardo Corbini provincial commander of the Forestry Carabinieri.

This year the alarm is more serious than in the past due to the exponential increase in the presence of ticks. Experts attribute this phenomenon to the high level of environmental humidity, generated by a warm winter and intense spring rains. As a result, the problem arose two months earlier than usual, requiring greater attention to the risks involved.

During the conference, experts will explain how ticks can transmit highly debilitating diseases, such as Lyme borreliosis and tick-borne meningoencephalitis. The objective of the CAI of Belluno is to provide a precise photograph of the situation, scientifically illustrating the consequences of a tick bite, and to provide advice on how to act in the event of a bite and on the preventive measures to be adopted.

The meeting represents an important opportunity to raise awareness among the population on the risks associated with ticks and on prevention methods, to reduce the risk of unwanted encounters with these parasites and the diseases they can transmit.
