Emotional update from Mia Rusthen’s family following the terrible accident in Misano

After Mia Rusthen’s serious accident in the inaugural race of the Women’s World Sprint Championship in Misano, her family shared an emotional update on her condition and their gratitude for the support they received.

Full letter from the family:

Dear all,

Here’s a little update from us, who are closer to Mia.

First of all, we want to thank you for the enormous care, support and love that was sent to Mia and us after the accident during the first World Cup race at WorldWCR, where Mia suffered a head injury. She is very warm and comforting. We are overwhelmed by how big the world of road racing is in many parts of the world and how many thousands of people feel and follow Mia in this difficult situation.

Mia is still at Maurizio Bufalini Hospital here in Italy and is receiving specialist treatment from the hospital’s trauma team. She has her loved ones around her and this is a strength for her and for us as a family. Mia is still in a coma, but the doctors here report that, fortunately, she is out of danger and is stable with good vitality. They are working on a plan for her to return home to a hospital in Norway as soon as she is stable enough to fly home. Regarding the extent of her trauma, it is still too early to say anything concrete, but we hope that her good physical shape and intense determination will help her overcome this too.

Sincerely, Mia’s mom and dad, big sister and boyfriend ❤️

Family Gratitude and Hope

The family expressed their immense gratitude for the outpouring of global support, underlining how much it means to them at this difficult time. Mia is receiving specialist care in Italy and, although she is still in a coma, her condition is stable. Plans are being made to move her to Norway when she is stable enough to travel. Her family remains hopeful, drawing strength from Mia’s resilience and the support of the global community.

For further updates, the family will continue to share Mia’s progress and appreciate everyone’s continued support and prayers.
