The second week of the 36th edition of Fde Festival dance summer starts with an “explosion”, a “Blast!» which is very reminiscent of the onomatopoeic terms of American comics. The protagonist of the explosive performance will be the Anglo-American choreographer resident in Geneva, Ruth Childs – nephew of the note Lucinda Childs – which presents the national premiere of its latest creation: Blast! The appointment on June 18th, at 7.30 pm at Spazio Daste represents the reappropriation of the painful, suffering, strange body, an incarnation of the violence that surrounds us, in the sound environment created by Stéphane Vecchione.
«Blast!« is based on the observation of human behaviors that Childs explores in his research aimed at the reappropriation of bodies. This performance was born from the need to respond to the violence that affects humanity, manifesting itself through the images and narratives that permeate the collective imagination. Childs, attracted by the expressive power of anger and brutality, transforms this fascination into an empathetic and at times ironic performance, in which music and space are meditative and reassuring elements that contrast with the intensity and explosive force embodied in the performer’s body .
Ruth Childs (London, 1984) grew up in the United States where she studied dance (classical and contemporary) and music (violin). In 2003 she moved to Geneva to complete her dance training at Ballet Junior de Geneve. Subsequently, she began working with many internationally renowned choreographers and directors, including Immobility Foofwa —, The Ribot, Gilles Jobin, Massimo Furlan, Marco Berrettini And Yasmine Hugonnet. Since 2015, she has been working on a project to recreate the early works of her aunt, the American choreographer Lucinda Childs. In 2014 you founded your own company Scarlett’s to develop their work through dance, performance, cinema and music, . His first theater piece in collaboration with Vecchione «The Goldfish and the Inner Tube» debuted in 2018. He then debuted with «Fantasy», her first solo, at the ADC in Geneva in 2019. Childs is one of the artists associated with‘Arsenic Lausanne.
The next Fde appointments are on June 20th at 7.30pm and 9pm at the Daste – Event space with the national premiere of «Ausencia + Presencia» by May Zarhy. On 21 June at 9pm at the Teatro Sociale with «Grand Jete» by Silvia Gribaudi and MM Company and on 22 June (at 5.15pm; 6.15pm; 7.15pm; 8.15pm) at Porta San Giacomo sulla Mura will be held « Atmospherology – View > Bergamo» by MK – Michele Di Stefano in collaboration with the Museum of Stories of Bergamo.
