San Pietro al Dosso wins the 34th edition of the Palio degli Zoccoli. The traditional event which commemorates the historic Battle of Desio was won by the district with the green and black colours.

San Pietro al Dosso achieved victory with his clogs on his feet, in the year of the centenary of the foundation of the city of Desio. The first place on the podium was colored green-black for the tenth time in total in the history of the Palio degli Zoccoli di Desio, now in its 34th edition. This victory is even more significant because the district of San Pietro al Dosso has thus overtaken Foppa which until now had held the record in terms of the number of victories at the Palio.

Over 500 participants marched

The district masters are in seventh heaven, Gaetano Riva And Angelo Famulari for the victory obtained (the last one was in 2022, the previous ones were collected in 2003 and from 2012 to 2018). Once again the historical re-enactment of the battle of Desio (21 January 1277) was held in the streets of the city. The Palio in fact recalls the historic victory of the Viscontis over the Della Torre to gain control over Milan and its countryside. From Villa Tittoni over five hundred participants and members of the district of ten of the eleven participating districts marched until they arrived in Piazza Conciliazione.

Great enthusiasm for the tenth victory at the Palio

Behind San Pietro al Dosso who he raced with Lucas Tallone And Davide Tagliabue San Carlo placed third, with the Contrada members of San Giovanni third. Then follow the districts: Dugana, Santi Pietro e Paolo, Bassa, Busasca, Foppa, Prati and San Giorgio. La Piazza, winner of the previous edition, did not run since it did not find the second runner. The mayor was also present Simone Gargiulowhich recalled the Palio held in the year of the centenary of the constitution of Desio as a city, the provost Don Mauro Barlassina, at his first Desian historical re-enactment, and the Grand Master Stefano Sala. Together they awarded the top three in the churchyard of the Basilica.
