Bryson DeChambeau won the 2024 US Open, which took place on the Pinehurst No. 2 course (par 70) in North Carolina. The American took the victory with a total of -6, despite the final 71, leading by one stroke Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman himself is the big loser of the day, having wasted everything in the last holes with two very short missed putts at the 16th and 18th. A very hard defeat to digest for McIlroy, for whom he continues a 10-year fast in Major tournaments. DeChambeau instead wins the second Major of his career, returning to win the US Open after the 2020 triumph.

Third place at -4 for Patrick Cantlay, who appeared to be the best of the lot in the long game but at the same time the most fouled on the greens. With him also Tony Finau, author of the best final round with a 67 which equals those scored by Russell Henley (7th at -1) and Sam Burns (9th in close par). Great tournament also for the Frenchman Mathieu Pavon, fifth at -3 and now stable at the highest levels. Japanese Hideki Matsuyama is sixth at -2, one shot ahead of the aforementioned Henley and the recent winner of the Pga Championship Xander Schauffele.

Difficult weekend for Francesco Molinari, the only Italian to have passed the halfway mark thanks to a sensational “hole in one” on the last hole of the second round. The younger of the two brothers finished in 64th place with a total of +13 (73 72 77 71) and confirms a decidedly fluctuating form and lacking in satisfaction. Edoardo Molinari and Matteo Manassero had failed to qualify for the weekend, at +9 and +14 respectively after two laps when the cut fell to +5.

Having concluded the third Major of the season, the DP World Tour will resume on Thursday from Holland with the KLM Open which precedes the appointment with the 2024 Italian Open in Cervia by a week. In the Netherlands the Italians Guido Migliozzi, Matteo Manassero, Edoardo Molinari, Lorenzo Scalise, Andrea Pavan, Francesco Laporta, Renato Paratore and Filippo Celli will be competing.
