San Severo, laborer killed in a road accident

Laborer dies in a car accident while returning from work. It is yet another episode recorded in Capitanata, the dynamics of which are still to be reconstructed, just as happened in the accident which, a few weeks ago, involved two other colleagues, also of African origins.

The victim, of Gambian nationality, was a resident of San Severo. “Since yesterday, following the news of the death of one of my clients, I have been trying – reluctantly – to reconstruct what happened”, lawyer Margherita Di Marco vents. “He was a very good boy. On June 9th he had a very serious car accident while returning home from work. The dynamics of what happened are not yet clear, which I will try to reconstruct.”

“I think this is the ugliest side of our profession. When a boy dies in a foreign country, far from his family, the lawyer is a sort of ‘substitute’ for the closest figures, a fixed point. In an Italy where recent events (I am referring to the death of the laborer in Latina) remind us of the weight and value these lives unfortunately have, this boy’s story hurts twice as much”, he adds.

“I just hope it wasn’t rammed and left on the side of the road, as often happens,” the fear of the lawyer. “Once again I have to say: ‘Have a good trip, dear boy. You have chased a dream here in Italy, but fate is sometimes ungrateful. You have done well, however, be proud of yourself. I am sure that , if only I had remained on this earth, in a few months you too would have rejoiced, we would have finished our journey together”, he concludes.
