Tomorrow, shortly after 9am, the solemn flag raising in Piazza Venezia will be followed by the laying of a laurel wreath to the Unknown Soldier, in the presence of the highest institutional officials. The moment will be made even more evocative by the passage of the Frecce Tricolori patrol.

Then, after the descent of the enormous tricolor on the Colosseum, the traditional Rivista Militare will begin on Via dei Fori Imperiali. Among the authorities on the presidential stage, also the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio and the Head of the Dap John Russo.

The Company of the Penitentiary Police Corps that will parade at the 2024 Republic Day is made up of a representation of 54 student commissioners of the 7th training course which takes place at the “Piersanti Mattarella” Higher School of Criminal Enforcement in Rome. In command, the director of the Penitentiary Police Lisa Brianese.

At the end of a 16-month advanced training course, the 132 student commissioners will take the oath and obtain the rank of commissioner. Once the roles have been assumed, they will be assigned in the various central and peripheral branches of the Penitentiary Administration, including the new Divisions headed by the first managers of the Corps, as provided for by the Decree of the Minister of Justice of 10 December 2023.

The Company will be preceded by the Dealer, deputy coordinating commissioner Mario Tramontiand by the Band of the Corps, directed by the maestro Fausto Remini, deputy director of the Penitentiary Police. Made up of 55 members, all belonging to the Penitentiary Police and graduated from the Italian conservatories, the band will wear a historical representative uniform, on the model of the one established by King Ferdinand of Bourbon for his army during the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.

The Corps Flag will parade in front of the Company. For the 2024 magazine, the Bandiera Group is composed of the chief commissioner Maurizio Marianias Standard Bearer, by the deputy manager Mara Fotias Senior Adjutant, and an Escort made up of the coordinating deputy commissioner Giacomo Lombardi and the deputy inspector Guild Aprea.

There are various honors awarded to the Flag of the Penitentiary Police: Gold Medal for Civil Valour, Knight’s Cross of the Military Order of Italy, Silver Medal for Civil Valour, Gold Medal for Civil Merit, Medal gold medal for Social Redemption, National Civil Protection Gold Medal and 1st class Certificate of Public Merit.

There will be 12 athletes from the Fiamme Azzurre Sports Group. Five Paralympians, all medalists at the recent Tokyo Paralympics and in various World and European championships: the swimmers Alessia Berra And Federico Morlacchithe judoka Carolina Costathe Amazon Francesca Salvadé and the sprinter Niccolo Pirosuwho will be accompanied by the Paralympic coach Stefano Ciallella. Seven able-bodied athletes: the wrestler Tommaso Bosiskiers Frederick Scussel And Petra Unterholzner and the players of Astrea Calcio Aniello Arena, Salvatore Accept, Edoardo Dal Monte And Davide Passacantando.

Three vehicles supplied to the Corps complete the representation of the Penitentiary Police. Of particular importance is the car for transporting a generating set with a power of 150 KW: assigned to the penitentiary facilities in Central Italy most at risk from seismic events, these vehicles carry generating sets capable of providing the electrical energy necessary to power the essential services of a medium-sized institution for eight consecutive hours.

Among the vehicles there is also an operational van used by the Translation and Settlement Units for the transport of two prisoners in independent security cells separated from each other by alarmed security doors and constantly video-monitored by the escort staff traveling in the same vehicle. And a car for complex operations in use by the Translation and Sequencing Units and the Mobile Operational Group, used to support the translations of prisoners subjected to the special regime of 41 bis and those included in the ‘high security’ circuit.

Tomorrow afternoon in Piazza Colonna, the musical bands of the Armed Forces and the Police Forces will perform in rotation: from 3.45pm to 4pm the notes of the Penitentiary Police Force Band will sound.
