The outcome of the European elections, with the resounding defeat suffered by Macron in France and Scholz in Germany. That of the regional elections in Piedmont and the administrative elections in some important cities of the country (Florence, Bari, Cagliari, Perugia, Bergamo and others) on 8 and 9 June last confirms the success of Fratelli d’Italia and Lega which in recent years they criticized the EU’s economic measures, the management of migratory flows, the interference of the European Commission in the “internal affairs” of our country.

“The EPP, Socialists and Liberals coalition, which characterized the previous legislature, would also be the numerically strongest majority in the new European Parliament. However, its level dropped after these elections, due to the decline of Socialists and Liberals: in the next EP it will be able to count on 403 deputies, compared to 444 in the previous legislature. While a centre-right coalition between the EPP, ID and ECR will not be viable (it would have 320 seats, 39 less than the required majority of 361), there are alternatives to re-proposing the so-called Ursula majority.

In fact, if the liberals of Renew 399 seats would be reached. If the Socialists were involved, even the ECR’s contribution alone would be enough (it cannot be ruled out that ID could accept an alliance with the S&D socialists, and vice versa). This is what emerges from the provisional data of the recent European elections” – says Simone Billi, deputy for the Foreign-Europe constituency and group leader of the League in the Foreign Affairs Commission.
