Castro dei Volsci fears for the fate of his “storyteller”. Ercole De Angelis, 67 years old, yesterday a computer programmer and today an artist and writer, is in danger of dying after a violent fall on his bike. The other evening, around 9pm, he fell to the ground and hit his head with full force while walking along Via San Nicola, the exit road from the historic centre. Given the serious condition, among other wounds and injuries, De Angelis was immediately intubated by medical personnel who rushed to the emergency vehicles. Once the air ambulance landed, he was then urgently transferred to the “San Camillo” hospital in Rome. A journey of hope to save the life of a man deeply in love with the village from which he cycled down.

It is not yet clear whether the bicycle accident was caused by a sudden illness, the involvement of other vehicles, the crossing of an animal or a simple moment of distraction. The dynamics are being examined by the Carabinieri, who intervened to carry out the usual investigations. Hours of tremendous desperation for the pensioner’s wife, two daughters and other loved ones, for a life of programmer and today “storyteller”, as he likes to define himself. Numerous friends and acquaintances immediately gathered around the family, including those from the surrounding municipalities.

He worked as a technician and analyst for the Faculty of Economics at Sapienza University and the INPS, as well as historic local companies such as the former Annunziata. Among the general apprehension, there were countless messages of affection and encouragement via social media. Via San Nicola is the winding road surrounded by greenery around the Civita. We set out to leave the fortress of San Pietro and its well-known “Monument to the Ciociara mother”. The same historic center that hosts various installations that Ercole De Angelis created in homage to him and donated to his community.

«Now I am a retired grandfather, who lives in a wonderful village – he himself says on his blog -. I’ve been a programmer all my life. Yes, the one that gives life to computers by writing them how they should behave in every situation. I really wrote miles and miles of code. Perhaps, for this reason, it came naturally to me to start writing books and stories. Now it’s not enough for me anymore and when I feel like it I grab a brush or a hammer or a hoe or even a PC keyboard. And by playing the guitar, between one song and another, I try to create something that wasn’t there before. I used to do it with computers. Now I try to do it with other things.”
