The story is that of sisters Gillian Owens (Kidman) and Sally Owens (Bullock), who grew up with their aunts after the tragic death of their parents. For centuries the Owenses have been suspected of being witches, of practicing magic and of being destined to never truly know love due to a curse. Sally, who saw her husband die and who tries to stay as far away from magic as possible, to protect her daughters, knows something about her. Gillian, on the other hand, is a free spirit, who loves to live to the fullest and loves magic, although she is not as powerful as her sister. Gillian’s thirst for experiences, however, leads her to meet the wrong man, Jimmy Angelov (the Goran Visnijic best known for his participation in the series ER.), who soon begins to beat her. Gillian asks her sister for help and the two end up killing the criminal. Too bad that Angelov not only returns in the form of an evil entity, but above all draws the attention of detective Gary to the two sisters (Aidan Quinn), who wants to shed light on Angelov’s disappearance and will instead end up entangled with the maneuvers of the two witches.
Loves & Spells it is a magical and delightful comedy, which over the years has attracted an ever-increasing number of spectators, who have let themselves be ensnared both by the first-rate cast and by a story of magic, sisterhood and love. It is one of those films designed not to have any artistic ambitions, but to bring good humor to those who watch. Precisely for this reason the news of the intention to shoot a sequels of the film and to review Nicole Kidman wearing Gillian’s shoes drove the internet crazy.
