The fire was caused by fireworks

Fireworks caused the fire that occurred between 5 and 6 June in the San Benedetto in Perillis area

Fireworks are an evocative show but, if they are not handled carefully, they can cause fires. And this is what happened in the town in the province of L’Aquila. This was confirmed by the investigations of the carabinieri of the ‘Parco’ unit of Cansano and of the Navelli station, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor of L’Aquila Marco Maria Cellini.

The fireworks in honor of the Madonna of Casaluce on 5 June caused fires, particularly in the pine forest, which were only put out with the intervention of Canadair and an Erickson helicopter.

The forestry carabinieri recall that “Forest fires increasingly represent a serious wound for the territory. The high temperatures favor the spread of the flames, which sometimes last for days, destroying entire forests, even in valuable areas. Not only vandalism and criminal activity, but also the failure to respect the rules, which common sense itself should recall, every year reduce thousands and thousands of hectares covered by vegetation to ash”.

Hence the appeal “to strictly observe the provisions for the prevention of fires and recall that the penal code establishes, for the crime of negligent forest fire, a prison sentence of two to five years, which is added to the administrative fines . A distraction that can cost dearly.”
