The closure of the bridge over the Turano in via Tancia also stops the Way of Francis but for the numerous pilgrims passing through the Rieti-Fonte Colombo stage there is an alternative route, identified by the CAI of Rieti and scheduled by the Varrone Foundation. There are twelve signs in total installed in recent days that guide walkers who head from Rieti to Fonte Colombo and who must cross the Turano river. A project shared with the Municipality of Rieti and with the Friends of the Way of Francis Foundation, which has always fought to improve the reception standards of what was the first Italian “Way” born in the wake of that of Santiago.
The temporary route includes passing through Via Votone to reach Piani di Sant’Elia and from there going up to Colle Sant’Antimo and then descending on the original path that leads to the Sanctuary. In addition to the signs, the signs created by the Varrone Foundation also include the QR Code which refers to the Georesq.it portal which displays the route to follow on a smartphone.
“With our tables – says the president of the Varrone Foundation Mauro Trilli – we provide an essential service to the pilgrims of the Way of Francis and we also offer those from Rieti who travel on foot or by bike a comfortable and safe alternative for crossing the Turano”.
