Lucia Fiore wins the competition for the design and creation of the “PALIO 2024 BANNER” – Bastia

Bastia Umbra On Wednesday 12 June 2024, at 6.30 pm, at the Ente Palio de San Michele headquarters in Bastia Umbra, the Technical Jury of the “Competition for the design and creation of the Palio 2024 Banner” met, composed of the following eleven members:

  • President of the Palio Institution: Federica Moretti
  • Coordinator of the Palio: Claudio Fiorucci
  • Captains of the four districts: Michele Betti (Moncioveta), Gessica Poeta (Portella), Simone Ercolani (San Rocco) and Saverio Pagliaccia (Sant’Angelo).
  • President of the Technical Jury: Giuliano Belloni
  • Qualified and professional artists: Don Marco Armillei, Luca Bartolucci, Gianluca Falcinelli and Carlo Fabio Petrignani.

After a careful and scrupulous analysis of the artists’ works, the Technical Jury decreed the winner of this edition by choosing the work of Lucia Fiore of Striano (Naples).

Federica Moretti, President of the Palio Institution: “Many people participated and it was really difficult to decide a winner, especially because the works we received showed unique and creative characteristics. We are truly enthusiastic, both for the participation and for the quality of the entries. In the end our choice fell on Lucia Fiore, an artist who lives in Striano, a small town in the province of Naples. This testifies even more to the growth in image that our beloved Palio is experiencing inside and outside Bastia Umbra. In addition to the artists who participated, I would also like to give special praise to our Technical Jury who, like every year, worked in a professional and scrupulous manner to be able to evaluate all the works in depth”.

In thanking all the artists who participated in the competition, the Ente Palio congratulated the winner of the competition who will be awarded a prize of €500.00.

The Artist’s Banner Lucia Fiore it will be presented during the official opening ceremony of the Palio 2024.

DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

The work depicts Saint Michael the Archangel defeating the devil and holding scales to weigh souls. The figure of the Archangel wrapped in a great light protects the city of Bastia Umbra, painted below, the luminous rays symbolize the victory of good over evil. The logos of the four districts are depicted in the boxes below, while at the top the year and edition number of the Palio de San Michele are depicted in a ribbon. The banner will be painted in acrylic on canvas and sewn onto blue fabric edged with gold trimmings and fringes. The banner will have buttonholes to allow it to be inserted into the support rods.

PRESENTATION OF THE ARTIST

Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples, Lucia Fiore was born on 09/23/1973 and resides in Striano in the province of Naples.
