Oil, the world of EVO becomes a wonderland with Montigiani

It must have been the hours spent at oil millwhere he hid when he was “skipping school”. Maybe those sweets memories of youth together with the desire to get involved they pushed Alberto Montigiani to take the big step. Thus she was born the olive growing company which bears his name, on the rolling hills of Reggello.

Montigiani he is a farmer under 40 and in some respects atypical: in fact he started from scratch. He did not inherit the company but he himself built its future piece by piece. He undertook this journey into the world of oil for the bond with the territory and in particular with the place where he spent his childhood: Pietrapiana.

After some experiences abroad, my adventure began in 2016. It started with an oil obtained without selection, also to gain experience. Then over time we managed to produce five oils and two years ago Gin Extravirgin also arrived, the first London Dry Gin with organic EVO oil. A small niche production of 3500 bottles for cocktail bars and wine bars” says the entrepreneur.

In the Montigiani catalogue oils make up the lion’s share. It goes from Decided to the Delicate passing through the Biological until the Diamond and to theAlter Ego which best express the philosophy of this young company. I am the fruit of acareful selection and of a limited number of bottles to express excellence.

The company is currently in biological conversion. I am 10 hectares cultivated, stand out among the cultivars Leccino and Muraiolo oil mill. Eighty quintals of oil from which the Montigiani blend. Labels already present in restaurants, in wine bars and small food shops and on the company e-shop. For a greater appeal of the project we are working on restyling of labels and to packaging in general.

A new point of view on oil

The goal is to give greater appeal to world of oil. Also from this consideration was born the gin which opened up new entrepreneurial prospects. Thanks to the support of Matteo Goriwhich is entrusted with marketing and sales, the company has also opened up to projects oil tourism.

A way to get closer to world of extra virgin olive oil the general public and promote a true EVO culture not only between country tastings but also with oil tasting in the company. The project “Ages in Wonderland” proposes summer in the olive grove.

The setting is country chic with hay bales, live music and good food for a full-flavored summer evening. After a first evening dedicated to food pairing with tasting of EVO and Extravirgin oilsproposes Saturday 29 June an aperitif basket with finger food and live music and on Saturday 6 July a four-handed dinner with chefs Cristian Borchi and Stefano Pellegrino Frassineti.

Oil tourism, prospects for the future

In Montigiani’s future there is the idea of a bigger house where you can best host tastings. Thus bringing more and more among the people the culture of the Ages. There are many projects in the pipeline despite the problems related to climate change.

I always tell my colleagues that this passion for oil is a damned passion that will lead us to ruin. A passion that however pushes us not to give up, to look for a solution. We as a farm do our best, collaborating with Palagina and are open to other collaborations. Very often I feel like saying that ours is a heroic olive cultivation” concludes Montigiani.
