The segment of portable technology, which includes smartphones, smartwatches and tablets, has seen significant growth. In May 2024, searches for smartphones increased by 33%, searches for smartwatches by 44%, and tablets by 47% compared to the previous year. Although the growth of desktop PCs, monitors and notebooks was more modest, with an increase of 12%, the data is still positive.

Falling prices and changes in consumer preferences

Another key element of the recovery is the reduction in average prices. In 2024, the average price of a monitor dropped by more than 25%, from 558.10 euros in 2023 to 416.82 euros. The prices of PCs, notebooks and mobile devices have also seen a significant decrease, making the technology more accessible to consumers.

User preferences show a clear inclination towards portability. Young people between 18 and 24 prefer notebooks and PCs, while older age groups show a greater interest in more portable devices such as smartphones and tablets. The over 55 they are particularly attracted to tablets, while smartwatches are popular among 35-54 year olds.

Tech accessories on the rise

The technological accessories sector also saw a strong increase. Sales of printers increased by 67%, headphones and microphones by 46%, and cell phone accessories by 16%. This trend highlights a growing interest in complementary products that improve the user experience.

“The recovery of the tech sector in 2024 represents an encouraging sign for the entire sector”says Dario Rigamonti, General Director of 7Pixel Srl “Reducing prices and growing demand for portable technology are driving a solid and sustainable recovery”.
