Four people, including two children, were burned in a house fire last night in Vittoria nel Ragusano. According to a first hypothesis, the person who started the fire was a man originally from Tunisia and his family members were injured.

The man was a guest at his sister’s house when, after an argument, he set the house on fire, thus trying to kill the woman, her husband and the two children, who suffered very serious burns. The Tunisian, who apparently started the fire by piling up tires in front of the house and then setting them on fire with a rag soaked in flammable liquid, fled and is wanted by the police.

The fire broke out around 2.30am in Piazza dell’Unità, a few meters from the former Trinità church, now deconsecrated, which gives its name to the neighborhood of the same name, one of the oldest in the city. The flames were put out by firefighters, but the building was destroyed.

The injured were transported to hospitals in Ragusa and Vittoria. In these hours they could be transferred to the “Cannizzaro” hospital in Catania due to the seriousness of their conditions.
