ORTONA – The path dedicated to Madama Margarita of Austria, a historical figure of great importance for the city, for the Abruzzo region and beyond, is taking shape. This is a new cultural and tourist route, the first block of which will be inaugurated on Sunday 16 June with the departure from Palazzo Farnese. The journey was created by the association “La storia in viaggio”, chaired by Franco Cespa, and is made up of the first block of 22 municipalities, all in the Abruzzo region.
It starts from Ortona and arrives in Fossa passing through families and fiefdoms that belonged to or inherited from Margaret of Austria
An event that marks the beginning of an important initiative aimed at enhancing the historical, cultural, naturalistic and tourist heritage of the municipalities crossed by the path and which has the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and the Abruzzo Regional Council. At 09.30 am from Palazzo Farnese, the 21-day “Cammino 0” will start. Each stage can be completed after registering on the website.
The Camino has no costs, it is free for a maximum of 20 people per stage. Cammino 0 will be the opportunity to install adhesive signs along the path. Every day the tracks traveled on the website will be activated and made downloadable by everyone.
“A year and a half ago we were sitting at a bar and talking about whether it was possible to achieve something so big – explains the creator of the path Francesco Bernabeo – on 16 June that dream becomes This is only the first block, traced by Bernabeo himself, because the path, in its entirety, will measure 7,000 498km provisionally, becoming the longest in the world and crossing four states, as well as Italy, also Switzerland, France and Belgium, all Farnese nations.
“The tourist part will have a strong impact on the territory” – adds Stefania Melito, CEO of Manifatture Culturali and responsible for marketing and communication of the route – it will contribute to triggering various economies and related activities, as well as promoting the beauties of the Abruzzo region by organizing them in a real regional tourism system”.

Ortona, Tollo, Crecchio, Bucchianico, Cepagatti, Pianella, Collecorvino, Penne, Montebello di Bertona, Catignano, Pietranico, Bussi sul Tirino, Popoli, San Benedetto in Perillis, Navelli, Capestrano, Ofena, Castel Del Monte, Calascio, Barisciano, San Demetrio nor Vestini and Fossa.
