The perennial nightmare of Autopalio users materialized again yesterday morning in the stretch between the two Colle interchanges, where traffic on the north lane remained paralyzed for about an hour, due to an accident involving a lorry and a car occurred near Colle sud, in the Belvedere area. For reasons that will be ascertained by the findings of the traffic police, the truck and the car came into contact at the point of entry into the motorway junction from the access ramp: a family of German tourists was traveling on board the car, headed for the regional capital , including a small child who fortunately remained unharmed while the father and mother had to seek treatment in the emergency room of the Campostaggia hospital. No serious consequences, fortunately, and the little family will be able to return home soon. In addition to the road patrol, ambulances and emergency medical vehicles, a team of firefighters from the Valdelsa detachment and some Anas and road rescue vehicles also arrived on site in a few minutes: the operations of detecting the accident and of clearing the roadway, also because an imposing column of vehicles of all types formed very quickly behind the damaged vehicles, stopped and unable to either continue or go back, which stretched for hundreds of meters reaching well beyond the exit of Colle sud, amidst the excesses of some motorists. To prevent the situation from worsening further, the highway diverted traffic onto secondary roads at the Monteriggioni junction and the super influx of traffic on Cassia and provincial road 5 also sent these arteries into a tailspin, causing significant slowdowns up to Colle and in Poggibonsi, where it was possible to return to Autopalio.
The situation on the ring road returned to normal and traffic towards the north reopened about an hour after the accident, after the incorrect and dangerous behavior of the usual onlookers in transit in the direction of Siena risked causing other accidents on the opposite lane due to of sudden and inconsiderate slowdowns.
