“This competition represents a further, significant step in the process already started by the Government to strengthen the National Fire Brigade. Waste set on fire in the center and on the outskirts, firefighters intervene

Waste fires last night in Palermo. The fires were set in Largo Entella, Via Beato Angelico and Via Silvestri. Firefighters were busy putting out the flames and preventing the fires from spreading to parked cars.

In some areas of Palermo, especially in the suburbs such as in via Messina Marine, but also in the center such as in Ballarò, there are piles of uncollected rubbish. The firefighters were also busy putting out brush fires in via Sarullo and via Alla Falconara.

Another waste emergency, open-air landfills on fire

There is a waste emergency again in Palermo. A few days ago, various open-air landfills in the Bonagia area (via San Filippo) and via dell’Orsa Minore were set on fire.

Some residents said that in recent days the bins were now submerged with bags and bulky items: so, taking advantage of the night hours, someone set fires to burn the mountains of rubbish that had accumulated for some time. Fire brigade teams intervened on site, while in neighboring buildings residents closed their windows to avoid breathing the dioxin released into the air.
