“I didn’t notice anything”

A well-known person appears to be registered in the register of suspects for manslaughter 50-year-old lawyer from Naples, Guido Furgiuele: he was driving the same boat — an 18-meter cabin cruiser — intervened to help the man who was in the canoe with the girl, who remained unharmed. The reconstructions released in recent days spoke of a pirate vessel, which after having overwhelmed the canoe continued its journey, and of the help provided instead by another boater. Now in light of the images collected thanks to the video surveillance system of Villa Rosebery – the Neapolitan residence of the President of the Republic, which overlooks that stretch of sea – investigators have identified the type of vessel involved.

At least three similar boats were seized from various landing places in the gulf, including the one owned by the criminal lawyer’s father, and checked for any signs of impact which, however, up to now, according to what transpires, have not yet been found. Listened at length yesterday by the investigators, the lawyer Guido Furgiuele is said to have said that he had absolutely not noticed anything, therefore not ruling out, but not even admitting, having caused the collision. And he added that he intervened because he realized that there was someone at sea who needed help. A case has been opened in the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the tragedy for manslaughter and negligence. Furgiuele’s name has now been inserted, but it is not yet clear, given his statements, whether the failure to assist is also contested.
