Plunging turnout and exploits of the Brothers of Italy. These are the two facts that emerge clearly from the Macerata area the day after the polls closed for the European elections. As regards the candidacies, however, two people from the Marche enter the Strasbourg Parliament, the regional councilor Carlo Ciccioli (Brothers of Italy) who wins 47,586 preferences in the constituency (of which 6,891 in the Macerata area) and the former mayor of Pesaro, Matteo Ricci (Pd) with 84,755 total preferences, of which 5,571 votes in our province. The former mayor of Macerata and exponent of the League Anna Menghi, wins 3,608 overall preferences (data from 1,303 sections were missing) in the constituency (of which 2,033 in the province), while Mirella Emiliozzi suffers the decline of the 5 Star Movement and stops at 3,062 preferences overall, of which 942 in the Macerata area. Finally, for the other Marche people in the running, the Honorable Mirco Carloni (Lega) the total votes were 14,169, of which 1,593 in the Maceratese area, while for Alessia Morani (Pd) the total votes were 31,956, of which 2,836 in the Maceratese area.

Peak turnout, therefore, compared to the last European elections with almost eight percentage points less, which stops voters at 50.93%, compared to 58.61% in 2019. The Macerata area, however, is not exactly at the bottom of the Marche, because in Fermo the figure stood at 48.69%. Without the driving force of the municipal elections, however, voters dropped both in Macerata (from 55.75% to 48.30%) and in Civitanova (from 52.55% to 44.20%). In the province, Fratelli d’Italia is the first party with 49,038 votes (36.65%) and over 21 thousand votes more than the second party, the Democratic Party which stops at 27,680 votes (8.96%). A real exploit for the group of Giorgia Meloni (the prime minister in the Macerata area also collects 17,401 personal preferences) and the governor Francesco Acquaroli who, in 2019, stopped at just 7.91% (12,367 votes). All the other parties were below 10% of the votes, starting with the 5 Star Movement which stopped at 8.96% (11,989 votes), losing over 13 thousand votes compared to five years ago, when it stood at 16.30%. The most important fall, however, is that of the League which, from being the first party in 2019, with 40.99% (over 64 thousand votes), fell to fourth place with 8.89% (11,890 votes). Immediately behind, the growth of Forza Italia continues, standing at 8.34% (11,157 votes) against 5.87% (9,178 votes) in 2019. Alleanza Verdi Sinistra is also above the 4% threshold with 5.19 % (6,946 votes). Action stops at 3.03% (4,052 votes), while Santoro’s Peace, Earth and Dignity stands at 3% (4,014 votes). The United States of Europe gained 2.87% (3,845 votes), Popular Sovereign Democracy 1% (1,344 votes), Freedom 0.92% (1,236 votes), Popular Alternative closed with 0.44% ( 593 votes). On the preferences front, Ciccioli’s 6,891 votes in the province should be noted, surpassing Matteo Ricci (5,571), Elly Schlein 2,949), Alessia Morani (2,836), Roberto Vannacci (3,814), Antonio Tajani (3,157).
