AGI – The president of the Liguria Region, Giovanni Toti, presented a request for the revocation of house arrest this morning. The request is signed by his lawyer, Stefano Savi, and by Toti himself who “makes all its contents his own”.
“As for the risk of recurrence – explains Savi – the celebration of the electoral round surpasses one of the reasons given for the precautionary measure”.
“Moreover, the Toti list did not participate either in the European elections or in the concomitant administrative ones – continues the lawyer – The next electoral consultations in Liguria will in fact be held in about a year and a half and will concern precisely the renewal of the regional council. If this future political commitment were taken as a reference, it appears clear that the suspension of the function of president linked to the precautionary measure would be characterized as a real forfeiture, not foreseen by the law precisely to protect the popular will expressed through free elections”.
Legal Toti, past and present desire not to commit crimes
“The systematic and meticulous recording of every movement of money by the movements headed by Toti, without any artifice aimed at concealing its timing and origin, demonstrates, where necessary, the desire to slavishly follow the regulatory path established by the law for donations”. The lawyer Stefano Savi, defender of Giovanni Toti, writes this in the note with which he explains that he has filed the request for the revocation of house arrest for the president of the Liguria Region, now suspended.
“It appears clear today that, given the past and present desire not to commit offences, the very presence of the investigation, with the objections raised by the prosecutors, is such as to inhibit any reiteration of actions similar to those contested, while awaiting trial” he underlines the lawyer. Toti has been under house arrest on corruption charges since May 7th. With the approval of the prosecutor’s office, he was able to meet one of his councilors in his home in Ameglia, before the vote of no confidence in the regional council presented by the opposition (no confidence passed, ed.), then yesterday he voted, escorted by the GdF, in the European elections .
