«A defibrillator can save a life. It is essential to have it and know how to use it, and it is not difficult, because these tools today are increasingly intelligent and guide those who work on the path to take.”
Utic cardiologist Tommaso Civitarese said this during a meeting in the Pescara Nautical Club on the occasion of the donation of a defibrillator.

Civitarese, medical director of Interventional Cardiology in the Utic of the Pescara hospital, has no doubts about the usefulness of the defibrillator and in particular the one donated to the Pescara Nautical Club by Alessandro Di Tunno, district manager of Banca Generali Private.

Doctor Civitarese practically explained how to use the defibrillator and above all in what circumstances, taking into account that the first thing to do is always to call the emergency room immediately and above all those who have to help must not panic, which is the most dangerous thing. The public who attended the meeting participated with interest and curiosity, formulating practical questions and also broadening the discussion to cardiological prevention in the sport of sailing. In this last case, Doctor Civitarese underlined the importance of having a dialogue with one’s general practitioner who can detect every slightest alarm bell in his patients, also with respect to each individual’s family history. «In a competitive and also amateur sporting context such as sailing», states the president of the Nautical Club, Alessandro Pavone, «owning such an instrument is fundamental, just as it is important to follow BLS courses as all the instructors of the Italian Sailing Federation do. . This is why we welcome with great pleasure this important medical device that they give us and which allows us to intervene to avoid sudden death. It is always good for us athletes, but I would also say for every working environment, to know the basic principles of first aid. We will keep this defibrillator in the Club premises and we will take it on the jury boat when our sailing trips take place.”

Alessandro Di Tunno, district manager of Banca Generali Private: «As a private individual but also as a frequenter of the sea, I wanted to give this gift to the Sailing Club because in this environment it is an indispensable tool». The Club’s next event will be the Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Cup on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June which also offers the opportunity to celebrate the first six years of the Nautical Club with the awarding of the Cnp Trophy.
