The olive oil competition “The oil of the Selinuntian districts” returns

The Slow Food Castelvetrano and Agro Selinuntino APS Association, in collaboration with the Asprol Selinunte association and the Slow Food Extra Virgin Olive Oil Guide Selectors of Italy, announces the 4th edition of the competition for the awarding of the prize for “THE OIL OF THE CONTRADE SELINUNTINE” and good agricultural practice in the Selinuntine territory.

The competition rewards the oil and at the same time wants to recognize the socio-economic and cultural importance of the olive growing companies operating in the Selinunto area, as well as identifying and rewarding those companies that operate according to the criteria of “Good Agricultural Practice”.

Olive growers producing oil obtained from the Nocellara del Belice, Cerasuola and Biancolilla varieties alone or mixed together, whose companies fall within the Selinunto area, in particular in the municipalities of Campobello di Mazara, Castelvetrano, Santa Ninfa, Partanna, can participate in the competition. Gibellina, Poggioreale, Salaparuta, and the neighboring municipalities of Mazara del Vallo, Salemi, Vita and the territories of the municipalities falling in the southern stretch of the Belice river (Montevago, Santa Margherita Belice), Menfi and Sciacca.

Applications for participation must be received by 30 June 2024 to: Selinuntine districts oil competition committee 2024 at the Slow Food Castelvetrano and Agro Selinuntino aps Association via R. Caravaglios n.13, 91022 Castelvetrano; the samples can also be delivered to “Montalbano Macchine Agricole” in via Vittorio Veneto n.11 in Castelvetrano together with the application for participation, and the declaration in lieu of affidavit, the payment of the contribution of €.15 or receipt of the bank transfer to current account with iban: IT41Y 02008 81830 000300006601.

Special prizes are foreseen for the “IGP Sicilia” and “DOPNocellara del Belice” oils as well as for those mills that have reported the greatest number of companies.
