The spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the hostages freed on Saturday 8 June, Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov and Shlomi Ziv, were held prisoner by Abdullah Jamal, a Hamas agentin the his family’s home in the Nuseirat refugee camp. It was reported that “this is further evidence that the terrorist organization Hamas uses the civilian population as a human shield. Security forces will continue to act in every way possible to return the abductees.” It was previously reported that Jamal “he worked as a photographer for Al-Jazeera and has published articles in English in Palestine Chronicle”. Ynet reports it.

Al Jazeera denies it

Abdullah Jamal “is not from Al-Jazeera, he never worked for Al-Jazeera and it does not appear that he has worked for Al-Jazeera either now or in the past.” This was stated by the television network’s bureau chief in Jerusalem, Omar al-Walid. “We don’t know him and all the rumors that have been spread are empty of content and they are not true at all,” he added, as reported by the Times of Israel.
