It was a choice made with awareness: the initiative wanted to underline, through the figure of the co-founder of the “Mattino”, the importance of the female role in every professional field. Donna Matilde was witness and protagonist of this change of pace and mentality. Perhaps she too unconsciously, she is a feminist ante litteram without ever having declared or chosen to be one.”
Established in 2001, the Award began in 2003, precisely in Cutein whose fraction of Ventaroli, the journalist-writer lived for some time, returned often but kept in her heart forever. In this connection the origins of the event, desired by the municipal administration of Carinola which organizes it with the Matilde Serao association. Alongside the Municipality, since the first edition, there has been «Il Mattino», which was then joined by Poste Italiane, in memory of the work as a telegraph operator that Serao carried out before dedicating himself to writing. Thus, what seemed like an “impossible undertaking” that started from a very small town in the province of Caserta has become a leading event, thanks to the passion of a small group of people and the association chaired by Antonio Corribolo.
