When this cat arrived at Wonky Whiskers Rescue in Waco, Texas, last March, he was in very bad shape. He had been run over and urgently needed treatment, but that accident was perhaps just the “coup de grace” after a difficult life as a stray.
This American shelter rescues and rehabilitates felines with serious injuries, disabilities or illnesses. And Porridge, a ginger-colored female specimen, was in the right place: her right front leg needed amputation, she is blind in one eye, she had a broken jaw from the accident and previous dental problems. But despite everything she had to endure, she won the hearts of those who cared for her with her radiant personality and loving nature.
Porridge immediately proved to be a loving cat who loves spending time with humans, super adorable and sweet, even with the vets who had to subject her to painful procedures.
In mid-April she underwent surgery on her mouth: some teeth that prevented her from closing her mouth properly were removed and she is now recovering from her jaw, with a surgical wire that will have to be removed. But she has already recovered perfectly from the amputation too. There was no way to save her paw: she had it dangling and in time it would only become a problem. But despite her three legs and limited vision, Porridge is back running and doing what she loves most: climbing.
Although it will still take some time to fully recover, Porridge is a completely new cat today: he has a crooked smile, one eye that will remain slightly smaller and one less paw but he never fails to show his funny antics.
“He likes to sneak into the closet and reach the top shelf and has a predilection towards humans over other animals.” Due to her bad experiences on the streets, she “prefers to hang out with younger and more submissive cats” and “does not like to share her person with others”. She is the undisputed star of the shelter, although everyone hopes that she will soon be able to find a his own house.
