New York, capital of Neapolitan pizza, Anthony Mangieri’s wins

The restaurant “Una Pizza Napoletana a New York” won the title of best pizzeria in the United States awarded by the 50 Top Pizza guide. The announcement comes from Manhattan, during an event held at Chelsea Market.

For Anthony Mangieri, owner of the downtown restaurant, it is the third consecutive success. In second place, “Tony’s Pizza Napoletana”, in San Francisco, owned by Tony Gemignani. In third place, “Pizzeria Beddia” in Philadelphia, by Joe Beddia. On the fourth “Ribalta”, a historic place in New York. In fifth place was “Ken’s Artisan Pizza”, from Portland, while in sixth place was “Jay’s” in Kenmore, Buffalo, New York.

The American Top Ten is closed by “Don Antonio”, again from New York, “Pizzeria Sei”, Los Angeles, “La Leggenda”, Miami, and “Robert’s”, Chicago. Already from these ten names, one fact emerges, confirmed by the organization: New York is the capital of Neapolitan pizza with 17 restaurants included in the ranking.

Chicago follows with seven and Portland with six. The ranking is drawn up based on the judgment expressed every year by the organisation’s inspectors, who visit the restaurants incognita and make their assessments, which range from the service to the quality of the pizza. Every detail can be decisive for the success or otherwise of a place. The first twelve positions of “50 Top Pizza USA 2024” and the first three of “50 Top Slice USA 2024” automatically enter the ranking of the 100 best pizzerias in the world, and which will participate on September 10th in the event scheduled in Naples at Mercadante Theatre.

The next appointment will be on July 10th at the Teatro Manzoni in Milan, where the best pizzerias in Italy will be announced.
