Around 5pm on Saturday 29 June 2024, while in the sports field of Hone the Tournament of Countries was taking place, a tornado lifted some sheets of metal from the roof of an industrial warehouse owned by Vallée d’Aoste Structure, adjacent and uprooted some plants. However, there were no consequences for the players and spectators.
At 7:00 p.m., there were at least a dozen interventions, linked to weather conditions, involving several teams of both professional and volunteer firefighters. The interventions were mainly located in the Lower Valley, between Champoluc and Verres.
In just under two hours, approximately 25 emergency calls were managed and processed by operators in the Fire Brigade operations room: one every five minutes.
Due to the concurrence of calls and the management of teams on the territory, it was necessary to activate a third call response station at the Fire Brigade operations room in Corso Ivrea.
The motorway underpass that connects Verrès to Issogneit flooded and a car also got stuck inside.
At 8.33 pm due to some mudslides, caused by heavy rains, the regional road of Cogne, downstream from the town of Epinel, and the municipal roads of Lillaz and Valnontey (landslide event in Teuf). The population is invited not to travel on municipal roads.
At 9.25pm, regional road 47 connecting Cogne to Aymavilles was closed.
At 9.45 pm, a debris flow occurred which affected the bed of the Laures torrent, at Brissogne. Given the continuing rains, further landslides with transport of solid material cannot be ruled out. For this reason, the mayor has prohibited parking on bridges and along the torrent banks.
