On Thursday 6 June 2024, at 7pm, in the setting of Piazzale Michelangiolo, the Carabinieri of the “Tuscany” Legion commemorated the 210th anniversary of the foundation of the Carabinieri, in the presence of the main civil, religious and military authorities.
The ceremony was preceded, in the morning, by the laying of a laurel wreath in honor of the fallen, at the “Baldissera” barracks, headquarters of the “Toscana” Carabinieri Legion Command.
The activities in Piazzale Michelangiolo began at 3.00 pm, with demonstrations for the public of the anti-explosive and anti-sabotage activities of the Bomb Squad team and a performance by the Competitive Team of the Dog Center; some historic cars of the Army were also on display.
At 7.00 pm, once the guests and the highest city authorities had arrived, a training department was deployed, made up of representatives of the various branches of the Carabinieri present in the region: in addition to the Fanfare of the Marshals and Brigadiers School of Florence, a platoon of Cadet Marshals from the Marshals and Brigadiers School of Florence, in full special uniform, one from the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Florence, one from the 6th “Tuscany” Battalion, in operational uniform, one from the 1st “Tuscania” Parachute Regiment, representing the 2nd Mobile Brigade of Livorno, in specialty uniform, one of the Forestry Carabinieri, in operational campaign uniform, one of the Special Units located in the region, composed of soldiers from the Anti-adulteration and Health Unit of Florence, of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit of Florence, from the Ecological Operations Unit of Florence, the 4th Helicopter Unit of Pisa, the Labor Inspectorate Unit of Florence and one from the canine units of the Center and the Unit of Florence.
After the honors to the banners of the Tuscany Region and the Metropolitan City of Florence, to the medal list of the “Nastro Azzurro” and to the banner of the City of Florence (decorated with a gold medal for military valour), to the tune of the “song of the Italians” he the war flag of the 6th Carabinieri Battalion “Toscana” took place in the line-up. The department was then reviewed by the Commander of the Marshals and Brigadiers School, Division General Pietro Oresta, and by the Commander of the “Tuscany” Legion, Brigadier General Lorenzo Falferi, and followed by the reading of the greeting message from the President of the Republic and the agenda of the Commander General of the Army, Army Corps General Teo Luzi.
Finally, the ceremony continued with the delivery of some rewards to personnel who distinguished themselves in service activities or in aid interventions for citizens.
Medals of merit
GOLD MEDAL FOR CIVIL MERIT GRANTED TO: ORDINARY MARSHAL MATTEO MADIAI, COMMANDER OF THE CARABINIERI STATION OF CIREGLIO (PT).
FOLLOWING AN EXPLOSION, WHICH CAUSED SOME PARTS OF THE BUILDING TO COLLAPSE, WHILE SHE WAS IN THE HOUSE, HEARING SHROUGH, HE WENT TO THE APARTMENT BELOW.
HE PROMPTLY INTERVENED BY LEADING OUTSIDE A YOUNG WOMAN WITH A CHILD IN HER ARMS. DESPITE THE BUILDING WAS SATURATED WITH GAS, HE RETURNED TO THE APARTMENT TO RESCUE HIS INVALID AND UNWALKABLE MOTHER, CARRYING HER OUTSIDE.
HE ENTERED AGAIN TO CARRY OUTSIDE THE BUILDING THREE GAS CYLINDERS WHICH RISEN OF EXPLODING, FURTHER AGGRAVATING THE SITUATION. FINALLY HE HELPED AND BROUGHT TWO ELDERLY PEOPLE TO SAFETY, WHO WAS UNABLE TO ESCAPE DUE TO THE RUBBLE.
WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF COURAGE, READINESS AND SPIRIT OF SACRIFICE.

THE RESULTS OF THE INVESTIGATION, WHICH ENDED WITH THE APPREST OF THE RESPONSIBLE SUSPECT, RESULTED IN WIDE CONSENSUS AMONG THE AUTHORITIES AND THE POPULATION, RAISING THE PRESTIGE OF THE INSTITUTION.

WITH THE CHORAL PARTICIPATION OF ALL ITS MILITARY, HE ENSURED A TIRELESS AND TIMELY ASSISTANCE AND FIRST AID ACTIVITY TO THE AFFECTED POPULATIONS.

A BRANCH STATION OFFICER, WHO REALIZED, OVERNIGHT, THAT HIS AREA OF RESIDENCE, DUE TO A VIOLENT AND LONG-LASTING CLOULD, WAS AFFECTED BY FLOOD, HIGHLIGHTING COURAGEOUS DETERMINATION AND UNCOMMON ALTRUISTIC EMPOWER, HE SWIMMED TO A PERSON WHO HAD BEEN DRAGENED FOR A FEW METERS FROM THE FURY OF THE WATERS, TAKING HER TO A SAFE AND SHELTERED PLACE, UNTIL THE ARRIVAL OF RESCUE.
