Mike Melby is the new majority shareholder of Cesena calcio.
The Californian entrepreneur who in September 2023 had secured the 2023-2024 season with 2 million euros, and had subsequently financed Cesena with half a million euros per season, guaranteed another 3 million euros this week and, this time, yes the majority shareholding of Cesena is taken.
John Aiello he tried with a fundraising operation among smaller entrepreneurs to repay the 6 million euros that Melby had put in last season, but the entrepreneur’s new relaunch has shuffled the cards: the takeover is inevitable. And the takeover game is what put the old ownership out of business when the Aiellos first came in as partners and then took over the pot.
That the situation was not as idyllic as it had been reported a few weeks ago – all quiet and John and Michael Aiello firmly in the lead of the company – we reported it yesterday, before even the Gazzetta dello Sport announced the change at the top.
So now Melby is the majority shareholder, but John Aiello will remain president of Cesena, at least for this season.
Once the ownership situation has been clarified, the new general manager should arrive next week: Corrado Di Taranto of SPAL is always among the favourites, but the Spallino president John Tacopina could retain him because to all intents and purposes he is the only operational manager in Ferrara, still without directors. Alternatively he always holds the court Diego Foresti from Catanzaro.
Then it will be the coach’s turn: Roberto D’Aversa he already has an agreement for 350 thousand euros that only Venezia could exceed but currently everything suggests that Vivarini will sit on the lagoon bench; in second place for the bianconeri there is Leonardo Semplici.
