‘Activate the EU solidarity fund’

Florence, 6 June 2024 – “The national and regional governments are allocating resourceswhile theEurope to which someone would like to give away our sovereignty has not yet done anything concrete to restore Tuscany, hit last November by a devastating flood. This is why I sent a letter to the President of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen, urging you to activate the EU Solidarity Fund for the Tuscany Region as soon as possible, as per the formal request made by the Government and transmitted by the Department of Civil Protection months ago”. This is what the Tuscan MEP of the League declares Susanna Ceccardi.

“I was the first, a few days after the disaster, to ask with ainterrogation and a speech in the plenary assembly to help Tuscany get back on its feet. In front of damage estimated at over 2.7 billion euros – adds Ceccardi – it is inconceivable that community support for reconstruction, the restoration of infrastructure and compensation for affected families and businesses is still lacking. The Commission has a moral obligation to act promptly, as it has already done on other occasions for other countries, in order to reduce recovery times and alleviate the difficulties of the communities affected by the flood”.
