A small, big victory over electromagnetic pollution, a problem that is very little talked about, took place in Rroma, in the Prati district. The residents of a condominium in via Girolamo Savonarola unanimously rejected the request of the Iliad company to install a mobile telephone system on the roof of the building at an annual fee of 20 thousand euros.
The condominium is located near the San Giuseppe al Trionfale Institute, a school complex that hosts a nursery school, a primary school, a parish and an oratory with the involvement of hundreds of children and families.
«We are happy with the condominium’s decision to almost unanimously reject the proposal to install the antenna – commented Don Salvatore Alletto, director of the San Giuseppe school and superior of the Community of San Giuseppe al Trionfale -. I would like to thank the condominium owners for the sensitivity and attention shown. We hope soon there will be regulation of the location of mobile telephone systems. The school and community of San Giuseppe al Trionfale is a sensitive site that must be protected.”
In recent days, in light of the controversy raised by the entire neighborhood, Iliad has tried to explain that «every antenna present on Italian territory is built only after having acquired the necessary authorizations required by law» and that «the authorizations themselves are issued by various public bodies, including the Municipality and the Regional Agency for environmental protection, which ensure that each antenna is built and functions in full compliance with legal requirements”.
The former coordinator of the Roman committees for the defense against the effects of electrosmog Giuseppe Teodoro, current vice president of Ecoland, the social promotion association that operates in the sector of health and environmental protection, supported the condominium in its battle .
Teodorro has released a 13-point handbook, so that “the risks and practical effects that citizens who endorse the choice of installing an antenna, even if driven by mere economic business reasons, may encounter, often unconsciously”, are clear.
Among the most important points are those according to which «properties that host an antenna depreciate by 30 to 50%, with the flat roof being forbidden to condominiums for the entire duration of the lease (similar to a commercial lease contract: in gender 18 years = 9+9) and the warning that almost always the manager who first gets the site, installing the antenna, then subcontracts the spaces on the same pavement available to other telephone operators, helping to generate a powerful electromagnetic pole. In any case – Teodoro recalled – the condominium assembly can always approve a Regulation that excludes the installation of antennas above the building, without prejudice to the fact that it is necessary to verify whether sensitive sites exist near the place indicated for the installation (schools, hospitals, nursing homes and rest homes), above and in the vicinity of which it is forbidden to install TLC systems, and if people with particular and serious pathologies (tumors, leukemia, heart disease, wearers of electro-medical devices and/or pacemakers) reside or work , whose condition is incompatible with the electromagnetic fields emitted by the system”..
