Flood. Tuscany, Ceccardi to Von Der Leyen: EU solidarity fund active

(SAY) Rome, 6 June. – “The national and regional governments are allocating resources, while Europe, to which some would like to give away our sovereignty, has not yet done anything concrete to restore Tuscany, hit last November by a devastating flood. For this reason I sent a letter to the President of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen, urging her to activate the EU Solidarity Fund for the Tuscany Region as soon as possible, as per the formal request made by the Government and transmitted by the Department of Civil Protection months ago ”. This is what the Tuscan League MEP Susanna Ceccardi declared.

“I was the first, a few days after the disaster, to ask with a question and a speech in the plenary assembly to help Tuscany get back on its feet. In the face of damage estimated at over 2.7 billion euros – adds Ceccardi – it is inconceivable that there is still a lack of community support for reconstruction, the restoration of infrastructure and compensation for affected families and businesses. The Commission has a moral obligation to act promptly, as it has already done on other occasions for other countries, in order to reduce recovery times and alleviate the difficulties of the communities affected by the flood”. “I wrote to Von Der Leyen that I am available to provide you with any further information or clarification that could facilitate the process of evaluating and approving the Italian request – concludes the Northern League MEP – The hope is that the President will act quickly, to give a response to the many Tuscan citizens who ask for it”.
